An interactive event for job seekers
The Summary Section on resumes is usually placed following the applicant’s contact information. This section is your opportunity to initiate a connection to the reader in a way that keeps their eyes glued to the page. Typically, though, the Summary Section fails in this purpose. We will take a fresh look at the intention of this section and consider alternative layouts that can be more intriguing and impactful. We will show examples of inserting a Heading before the Summary Section that announces your preferred title, role, and functional area of focus. We will discuss repurposing the Summary Section into a quick-reading message that supports your claim of excellence in your preferred job role as announced in your Headline. Entry level job candidates may take a simpler approach by opting to a listing of four to six short phrases that highlight their qualifications and accomplishments. Bring questions and tips for other workshop participants, as well as ways you need help in moving ahead in your job search.
