THPS Branch Meeting RoomBerkeley Record Club is hosting a celebration of the music & aesthetic of FUNK with a curated listening session and a DIY bell bottom craft, facilitated by Community Fits.
Join us as Berkeley Record Club hosts a Black History celebration of funk music and aesthetic. We'll be taking it back to its roots, starting with the Godfather James Brown and then walking through all of funk's (r)evolutions.
To accompany the listening session, Community Fits will be facilitating an upcycling activity where you can turn your old pants into funky bell bottoms. Community Fits is a local non-profit dedicated to "empowering youth through creative outlets, particularly in the realm of fashion and textile arts." Sewing machines and some fabric will be provided, but please bring your own pants.
We'll close the night by raffling off a classic funk LP.
February 27th, 5:30-7:30pm at Tarea Hall Pittman South Branch's Community Meeting Room.

What is the Berkeley Record Club?
Berkeley Record Club is a series of music appreciation programs by the Berkeley Public Library.
Our current programming is centered around themed listening parties. During these sessions, library staff highlight gems from BPL’s music collection, while also inviting community members to bring music from their personal collections (or perhaps find their new favorites in the library!) to share with the rest of the group.
Stay tuned for more programs! Check the BRC webpage (coming soon), the BPL event calendar, or follow the library’s social media channels or updates.
