SPECIAL PRESENTATION
Crip Camp: A Disability Revolution
2020 / 108 min. / R
A powerful movement (and this joyful, indispensable film) came from the collective thrust of disabled people, some of whom attended a summer camp for disabled kids in the 70s. We see some of them, energized, go on to sit in for weeks at the Washington DC Office of Health and Human Services until their demands are substantially met, resulting later in 1990’s adoption of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Don’t miss Crip Camp, which among other things heralds Berkeley’s important role in the disability rights movement. Netflix produced the film, along with the Obamas as executive producers.

Argo
2012 / 120 min. / R
Shortly after Iran detains American hostages during Jimmy Carter’s presidency, the CIA drafts a CIA operative (Ben Affleck) to head a ruse in which a supposedly Canadian film crew goes to Iran to shoot a science fiction film. The real plan is to free 6 diplomats being help separately from the other hostages. While faulted for historical inaccuracy, Argo is suspenseful and often rapid-fire funny. It won Oscars for Best Picture and Best Director (Ben Affleck).

1954 / 113 min. / Approved Sabrina (Audrey Hepburn) is the young daughter of the chauffeur to the Larrabee industrialist family. Sabrina has been “in love” with David Larrabbee (William Holden) for years, so her father sends her to a Paris cooking school. Upon her return, both David and David’s stuffy brother, Linus (Humphrey Bogart), fall in line before her. It is too utterly charming. Directed by Billy Wilder
