A father and daughter con artist team (Charles Coburn and Barbara Stanwyck) are attracted to an ocean cruise to meet and fleece a shy snake expert who is heir to a beer fortune (Henry Fonda). Written and directed by Preston Sturgess, this certainly tops any heap of screwball comedies. It is slated for preservation by the Library of Congress for its “cultural, historical or aesthetic significance.”

French- Canadian nurse Hana (Juliette Binoche) is caring for an English-accented pilot (Ralph Fiennes) who has been badly burned in a WWII plane crash. He says he doesn’t remember his name. Largely through flashbacks, a complex plot ensues. Saul Zaentz of Berkeley’s Fantasy Records produced the film, which received 9 Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

A Wyoming rancher hires 2 cowboys, Ennis & Jack (Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal) to take a herd of sheep to pasture land on Brokeback Mountain to graze for the summer. Alone together, Ennis and Jack get drunk one night and have sex, leading to a years-long secret relationship. Neither identifies as gay, but they fall in love. Directed by Ang Lee.
