A celebration of North Berkeley history!
Join us for a special event hosted in conjunction with local historian Darrell Owens and the Friends of the Fountain and Walk (supporters of the Marin Fountain in Berkeley)! The Northbrae Lanterns will return to North Berkeley after being removed over a half century ago. The unveiling and lighting ceremony will be held right in front of the North Branch of the Berkeley Public Library. We'll thank the donors who funded the project, go over the history of the lanterns, the stone pillars and other lost Northbrae art designed by John Galen Howard. Our talented metal master Jerry Coe may also let a folks wield a little bronze of their own with a hammer!
There will be local history booklists, Berkeley Public Library History Room info, and a special lantern craft. All ages welcome!
Earlier in the morning, Friends of the Fountain and Walk will do a separate walking tour of the Northbrae neighborhood before coming to the Lantern area: https://www.berkeleyfountain.org/northbrae-walking-tour-lantern-unveiling/
