In the 1968 classic film Bullitt, San Francisco police detective Frank Bullitt (Steve McQueen) is hired by a politician to guard a mob witness. Basic Instinct (1992) erotic thriller, San Francisco detective Nick Curran (Michael Douglas) investigates the ice-pick murder of a rock star. He falls into a dangerous, volatile affair with the prime suspect, brilliant and manipulative crime novelist Catherine Tramell (Sharon Stone), whose books mirror the brutal killings.
