Celebrate Poetry Month with Oakland writer James Cagney. He will be reading and discussing his newest collection, Ghetto Koans: A Personal Archive.
James Cagney is a writer from Oakland, Ca. Primarily self taught as a poet, he is the author of two collections. His first, Black Steel Magnolias In The Hour of Chaos Theory, won the 2019 PEN Oakland Josephine Miles Award. Cagney’s second book, MARTIAN: The Saint Of Loneliness, is the winner of the 2021 James Laughlin Award from the Academy of American Poets. His newest collection is Ghetto Koans: A Personal Archive published by Black Lawrence Press. His work has appeared in Best American Poetry, Alta, Cola, Entanglements, Beat Not Beat, SF Chronicle, and Zyzzyva. JamesCagneypoet.com.
