Come see Bay Area artist Donté Clark read from his latest work WE CRY FREEDOM
THP South will be a hosting an author reading and Q&A with Donté Clark. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event through F&M Publishing.
Donté Clark, also known as DONBLAK, is a poet, actor, and filmmaker from Richmond, California. His work explores the vulnerability of Black masculinity in the face of systemic racism, white supremacy, and hyper-violence amongst black youth. A co-founder of RAW Talent (Richmond Artists with Talent), Donté’s artistic achievements include the co-written play Té’s Harmony, being featured in the movie Kicks, and co-starring in two seasons of The North Pole show, a political comedy about gentrification in Oakland, California. Following the release of his poetry collections, KNOWFREEDOM, Close Caskets, and Psalms, Donté secured a poetic residency at John A. Davis Juvenile Hall in Martinez, CA through his work with the CCC Contra Costa Art agency. As a 2023-24 Yerba Buena Center for the Arts grant recipient, Donté created We Cry Freedom, a poetry collection, and the poetic short film Blú Honey.
We Cry Freedom is the powerful follow up to Psalms, continuing Donté Clark’s poetic journey toward purpose, clarity, and the evolution of self. With verses that confront the wounds of systemic injustice and celebrate the resilience of the human spirit, this collection moves like a meditation on freedom, memory, and becoming. Enhanced with F&M Publishing’s immersive AR integration, a selection of poems will come alive through the voice of Donté Clark, layered with original instrumentals and animations that transform the text into a vibrant reflection of the artist’s voice and presence.
