Learn Effective Resume Building Skills from Marilyn Tullius
Do you consider your resume to be the critical element of your job search? It may be, but it will be more effective when supported by reinforcing elements. Reinforcing communications include the Cover Letter, References, and Work Samples. On LinkedIn, reinforcers include the Background image behind your Headshot, the Headline beneath your Photo and Name, and the About Section. Added to the mix are online postings and stories you have rehearsed in readiness for interviewers’ questions. You may also prepare an “Ask Me About” page that sparks conversation and a One-Page sheet that highlights your strengths and potential value. Taglines and Soundbites are useful in Networking introductions. Your Mission Statement and annotated Capabilities Summaries supplement your resume. An assortment of these content pieces may be collected into a Portfolio accessible from a link on your resume. The additional write-ups solidify the positive impression you make and improve the prospect that you and your resume will stay alive in the reader’s memory. We will adapt our discussion to the interests of workshop participants and invite questions as well as sharing of tips.
