Join author, lecturer and leading weight-based discrimination expert Virgie Tovar for a workshop on weight stigma and how to speak out against it in your community.
Weight stigma is a pervasive and serious form of discrimination and bigotry in the United States that leads to decreased wages, less access to medical care and has been linked to shortened life expectancy. Often we avoid this hard conversation because of the belief that mistreating or judging people in larger bodies is a health-promoting behavior. In this workshop, with weight discrimination expert and author Virgie Tovar, we'll clear up once and for all that using weight as the basis for differential treatment does not promote health. It promotes isolation, shame, and worse mental and physical health outcomes. In this workshop, Tovar will walk participants through an easy-to-understand presentation, then a helpful worksheet that will you leave you more empowered to start or continue a conversation about weight stigma with your community.
