Author, educator and Coach Janna Barkin will discuss her most recent book A Grand Love: Stories for Grandparents of Transgender Grandchildren at the North Branch Library.
About Janna:
Janna Barkin (she/her) is a published author, professional speaker, coach/group facilitator for parents and families of transgender youth, and a passionate advocate for transgender youth rights. She is the proud mother of three; her youngest is transgender.
Janna's new book, A Grand Love: Stories for Grandparents of Transgender Grandchildren (Jessica Kingsley Publishers, August 2024), provides personal stories, up-to-date research on gender identity, letters from grandparents, resources for transgender youth and their families, and support group information. Her first book, He's Always Been My Son: A Mother's Story about Raising Her Transgender Son (Jessica Kingsley Publishing,August 2017), achieved #1 bestseller on Amazon and "Book to Watch" in The Bookseller. Janna has presented at conferences, Fortune 500 corporations, and various community centers and libraries. She facilitates support groups for parents and grandparents with PFLAG, Stand with Trans, and DOROT NYC, all national organizations. As a lifelong educator and lifelong learner, Janna works to foster awareness, compassion, and acceptance in our communities and families.
